Are temporary employees eligible for statutory holiday pay?
As an elect to work employee, temporary employees are not legally entitled to statutory holiday pay. As stated in the Employment Standards Act:

a. Exemptions and Special Rules? Ontario Regulation 285/01
Special Rules re: Employees Who May Elect to Work or Not

Section. 9 (k) of the regulations to the Act states that Part X of the Act does not apply: "to a person who is employed under an arrangement whereby he or she may elect to work or not when requested to do so."

However, ABL Employment does offer stat pay as a benefit for employees. You are eligible for stat pay if you have been working for 13 weeks continuously with ABL and if you worked the day before and after the holiday. Contact our office if you believe you meet these criteria.

How do I get considered for jobs through ABL?
You must come into our office and register with us. This process involves completing your employee record, taking some evaluations, having an interview with a staffing coordinator so we have a good idea of your availability and preferences. Then there will be a brief orientation on ABL. The whole process takes about 45 minutes. We require the names and phone numbers of two work related references if possible and proof of eligibility to work in Canada.

What are the advantages of working through a temporary service?
Temporary work is an excellent means of evaluating a company or type of work while earning money. As well, a large percentage of temporary jobs result in full time positions. Recent statistics show that up to 15% of people find their full time jobs through a temporary service or employment agency. For the person looking for occasional work, registering with a service lets you have more options and gives you control over your work schedule.
